Leases
A lease is a contract that represents the right to operate a business from a rented premises or live in rented premises. It is a legally binding contract between the landlord and the tenant that sets out the terms, conditions and rights as well as the obligations of both parties in relation to the occupancy.
Leases may be governed by the Residential Tenancy Act, Retail Leases Act or the Conveyancing and Real Property Acts. Each Act has its own particular requirements and formalities and difficulties can be encountered if there is a lack of attention to detail.
